Glass-Fusion artist

Linda McDougall, (nee Standish) whether

she was drawing, painting, or sculpting with

clay, the creative urge has been second nature

to her since early childhood.

At school she worked her way through pencil,

watercolours, oils and acrylics. At this time she was fortunate to have a teacher who headed the Arts Department at the Richelieu Valley Regional High School.  This teacher saw much potential in Linda’s unfolding talent. Linda was given an office and supplies where she produced many pieces of art, some of which were sent to the archives in Quebec City. She was also required in her last year of high school to critique and assist students with their art, as well as to assist in teaching class when the teacher was unavailable.

In the mid 70”s Linda went on to unravel Graphic Design at George Brown College, Kensington Campus, in Toronto. She returned to George Brown (King St Campus) for a year to study Photographic Screen Process Printing in the late 80’s. Linda traveled through Web Page Design in the mid 90”s, and landed in Clay (designing pots) in the early 2000’s at the Norfolk Potters’ Studio and Guild.

Being a tenacious person, Linda searched out another avenue that would allow her to grow her creativity. Pots lead to Glass, and, in 2007, Linda traveled from Simcoe to London Ontario to take weekly night classes in Glass Fusion. At last, along with her mixed media satchel, Linda knew she had found her path to creative expression.

As she gained knowledge in Glass Fusion, she began experimenting with a variety of processes and combinations of materials and techniques, drawing from her experiences in mixed media and background in traditional arts, achieving unexpected and unique results.

Always challenging herself, today Linda continues the experiment, developing her own design style and approach,  leap-frogging from one surprising result to another successful original artwork.
